Reinventing Yourself at 50…or whatever age
Reinventing yourself at 50…
Age has never scared me! In fact, I’ve always looked forward to getting older because in my mind, getting older meant finding peace. It meant demons had been dealt with, negative patterns had been broken, and the origin of pain had been understood and acknowledged. From there, growth and movement occurred.
Getting older to me means growth. At least that’s what I want. It’s a conscious choice that I made a long time ago and I have been tirelessly pursuing growth on a daily basis. It never ends because there is always something to learn and there is always someone from which to learn. Growth requires patience and a delving into things about yourself or those around you that may be hindering your happiness. This is the first prong of growth attained as one gets older.
The second prong of growth is redefining, enhancing, adding, recreating yourself and taking steps to accomplish this. Growth means movement. It’s one thing to learn the information you need to heal yourself and become a great human. Quite another thing to use this information and, perhaps, leap forward with a new version of yourself after you have acquired skills, tools, and wisdom throughout the years of your life.
Redefining yourself doesn’t mean changing who you are. It doesn’t mean taking drastic or shocking steps to be someone different. It does not mean stepping out of yourself to become someone you are not. Quite the contrary, it means using all of your essential gifts and skills to pivot, to step into an enhanced and fortified version of yourself. A version fortified by wisdom and years of experience. A version that is you with all of your accumulated lessons, successes and failures….it is you but better!
I chose the age of 50 to reinvent yourself, but honestly the number is irrelevant. My message is simply reinvent, redefine, pivot, and step forward at every age! Keep growing and never stop!
